Subprojects offer a convienet way to further organized files within SourceSafe,
subprojects can also be thought of as subfolders/subdiretories within a file
system. For instance one may have a project called ASP Application and within
this Project are folders for utlities and database classes, in Source Safe these
would be represented as subprojects. Another use of subprojects, as used in
the example below, is to organize information, reports for example. An organization
may have reports for Accounting, Human Resources, Sales and Support (Customer
Support), instead of placing all reports in a Reports project subprojects (subfolders)
should be created to store them and therefore keeping the information better
organized.
To create a Subproject first click on the project in which it will be created
within, in this case Reports and then right click with the mouse button. From
the menu select Create Project.
As done with a main project enter in the Project (required) and Comment
(highly recommended) and click OK. Notice that the title bar of the dialog
displays "Create Project in $/Reports" indicating it is creating
it within the Reports Project.
Below is the result after having created four subprojects within the Reports
Project.
